Housing and Neighborhoods - Priority for Resilient Communities

This home in my neighborhood had been vacant for over a decade. It is now getting new life and will soon be a home again. We must encourage small-scale, incremental re-investment.

A thriving, healthy community must have housing that is not only affordable but is close to great schools, parks, jobs, and public transportation. I will champion policies that ensure that housing is affordable and accessible for all.

Kansas City is booming and I believe we can adapt to meet the growing demand for housing while continuing to honor and preserve our unique historic character. To stabilize rising rents I will work to encourage development of new homes of all types, especially affordable housing.

We must find a way to continue improving quality of life without displacing our neighbors. As we reinvest in our communities we must make sure housing is safe, accessible, and affordable for all. I promise to champion policies that will do just that.

Apartment buildings throughout our urban neighborhoods are in high demand. This one in my neighborhood was recently purchased and renovated. The families who lived there were faced with a decision - stay in place and pay double the rent or move away to a less expensive home. I will work to find creative ways to ensure our residents can live in the neighborhood of their choice without fearing displacement.
